What is Energy Healing?

Reiki is the main form of energy healing that assists with stress reduction, relaxation and promotes healing.  It treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit. 

 

It works with the energy fields around the body and involves the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner’s palms to the client. 

 

Energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or emotional pain and these energy blocks can cause illness.

 

Energy healing aims to assist the flow of energy and remove blocks in a similar way to acupuncture or acupressure. Improving the flow of energy around the body can enable relaxation, relieve pain, speed healing, and reduce other symptoms of illness.

 

The underlying philosophy of reiki is that if a person’s energy is low, they are more likely to be unwell or stressed. If it is high, however, they are more capable of being happy and feeling well. 

 

Reiki can also be a complementary therapy to other treatment plans.

What happens during a reiki session

At the initial consultation the Practitioner will spend 10 minutes to gain important background information and to understand your expectations and considerations.  

 

What to expect during the session will be explained and you can ask any questions or concerns before the session starts

 

At the beginning of each future session there will be 5 minutes for the practitioner to check in and for you to communicate what you want the session to focus on

There will be a massage table to lie on or alternative equipment to suit you (e.g. chair, wheel chair or specialised equipment)

•    You will be asked if you would like a blanket at the start or during the session to be place on you

•    Reiki is applied through non-invasive, non-manipulative gentle touch 

•    You chose if the practitioner places their hands  just above your body or directly on your body in a sequence of positions

•    You do not need to remove any clothing

•    During a session, you may feel warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, slight twitching or a rumbling tummy, or you may not feel anything, you may also visualise colours or images

Generally individuals attend sessions privately on their own, however you can chose to bring a carer or someone if you prefer.

What to expect before & after a session

How to prepare for your appointment

Ensure that your body is hydrated and wear comfortable clothing.  Please consider that you will be asked to remove your shoes, jewellery, and glasses before your session, and keep your mobile phone on silent.

 

What to expect after your appointment

 

You may feel relaxed and energized or you could feel tired.  You could also experience some emotional releases.  It is recommended that you drink plenty of water and if possible, plan some downtime after your session.
